Air Pollution

An action to combat the global crisis of air pollution is the call for this year’s World Environment Day 2019. Many might say that we can’t see it, smell it but the hard truth is that it is prevalent everywhere – Air Pollution.

With the advancement of technology and rise in the number of factories and industries, the amount of air pollution has also increased considerably. Unknowingly, we might be taking in miniscule particles of polluted air that can harm our lungs, brain and other vital organs of our body.

Let’s try to join with the theme for this World Environment Day to take simple steps to beat air pollution. According to the report given by World Health Organization, 9 out of 10 people worldwide are exposed to levels of air pollutants. Air pollution also leads to global warming, effects our health and also has a drastic impact on the economic growth.

We as global citizens have to play our role promptly to prevent air pollution. It has to be a cumulative act by all of us on this planet starting from a child to an adult, followed by schools, colleges, organizations, industries, private and government entities.

It is necessary for us to keep following these simple steps not only on June 5 or the following week but for our entire life.

1. Use environment friendly cleaning materials.

2. Use energy efficient appliances.

3. Use energy-efficient light bulbs and turn off the lights when you do not need them. By doing so, you’ll reduce electricity consumption and have lower power bills.

4. Reduce energy usage at home.

5. Switch off tv and other electronic/entertainment systems and don’t let them go into rest/sleep mode.

6. Use washing machines and dish washers on full loads.

7. Switch off lights that aren’t required.

8. Try switching to cleaner technologies such as electric cars, hybrids or natural gas vehicles.

9. Understand the quality of air that you are surrounded by.

10. Use public transportation or opt for carpool to commute.

11. Regularly check whether your car engines are in good condition

12. Ensure to have the car tyres have the right amount of air pressure.

13. Try to use sunlight during the daytime and turn off the artificial lights.

14. Open your house windows to get cool breeze without switching on your fan or AC

15. Clean your fridge on a regular basis to remove unwanted items so that air can circulate freely.

16. Regulate your water heater to warm setting and save your bill.

17. Schedule an inspection, cleaning and replacing filters in your AC

18. Reduce, reuse, recycle, repair

19. Create awareness and make people act

20. Maintenance of chimneys

21. Plant trees/saplings in your community

22. Avoid traffic free transportation by building roads, rails and other infrastructures

23. Enforce strict regulations to combat air pollution

24. Try to avoid chemicals that emit smokes or fumes

25. Never burn your trash or unwanted materials as it leads to direct air pollution

The issue of Air Pollution can be solved and prevented. Let’s join this World Environment Day and create a wave of change and also take concrete steps to #BeatAirPollution by following simple everyday choices to put an end to air pollution. Make every day a “World Environment Day” and try protect our environment. Together we can make a difference by taking a pledge and beat air pollution.
